ANNOUNCEMENT COMES AS PART OF EUROPEAN EXPANSION PROGRAMME

Falkirk East MSP, Angus MacDonald, has welcomed the announcement by INEOS to invest in its site in Grangemouth as part of a wider programme of expansion in Europe.

The KG cracker, which produces feedstocks for the other chemical plants, has a current capacity of around 750,000 tonnes per year. However, the investment announced yesterday (12th June 2017) will see that capacity raised to over 1 million tonnes per year. Similar expansion is planned at Ineos’ site in Norway, with investment also expected in Antwerp in Belgium.

After meeting with John McNally, CEO of INEOS Olefins & Primers UK, Falkirk East MSP Angus MacDonald commented on the announcement:

“I welcome this announcement from INEOS, which shows their commitment to investing in Grangemouth. INEOS have had significant recovery plans in place over the past few years to get their site in Grangemouth back to a level of sustainable operation. This process clearly has not been easy, and I am glad we are now seeing the efforts of the hard-working staff and management come to fruition with news of this announcement.

“I trust that this work continues, and INEOS continue to be a positive partner in growing the local economy with investment in the future, however this must come as part of collaboration moving forward in the interests of all.”
