INITIATIVE RUN BY NHS FORTH VALLEY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE STROKE ASSOCIATION

Falkirk East MSP Angus MacDonald has welcomed the provision of free blood pressure checks on Tuesday 20th June at the Council Chambers of the Municipal Buildings in Falkirk, being provided by NHS Forth Valley in conjunction with the Stroke Association.

The Stroke Association has said that up to 80% of all strokes could be avoided if people were aware they were suffering from high blood pressure. Over 100,000 people are affected by strokes in the UK every year, and by recognising the warning signs early enough, strokes can be avoided.

Angus MacDonald MSP, Falkirk East constituency commented saying:

“I welcome this initiative and would encourage everyone in the Falkirk district to get along to the Municipal buildings in Falkirk on the 20th of June to take advantage of this free blood pressure check.

“All too often in Scotland, we see the issues arising by conditions which may be preventable if we recognise the causes, and rectify them sooner, rather than going through treatment after it has happened.

“Even if one person is given the opportunity to find out they are at risk, and start on a path to prevent stroke or another condition later on in life, will be worth the effort of providing free blood pressure checks. So ensure you take time out of your day to go along, even if you are in fine health.”
