Newly elected MSP for Falkirk East, Councillor Angus MacDonald has been appointed to the Scottish Parliament’s Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee.
The Committee will meet for the first time in the new Parliamentary session on Wednesday (8th June), with its remit to consider and report on the Scottish economy, enterprise, energy, tourism and renewables and all other matters within the responsibility of the Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth apart from those covered by the remit of the Local Government and Regeneration Committee and matters relating to the Cities Strategy falling within the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Cities Strategy.
Accepting his appointment, Angus MacDonald, whose remit on Falkirk Council included Economic Development said:
“I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to serve on the Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee. My background and interest in Economic Development will stand me in good stead on this committee and will allow me to become deeply involved in ensuring the right policies are pursued as we strive to return to sustainable economic growth in Falkirk District and throughout Scotland.
“This is also an exciting time to be tasked with overseeing developments in the renewable energy sector, particularly as new tidal and wave power projects come on stream. Scotland has so much potential in renewables and it is important that we take full advantage at an early stage.
“Tourism is also a specific interest of mine, and I look forward to working with Falkirk Council in the future, with a view to developing tourism opportunities in Falkirk district.”
