Angus MacDonald appointed to Scottish Commission for Public Audit

SNP MSP for Falkirk East Angus MacDonald has been appointed to a second committee in the Scottish Parliament. Parliament this week approved his membership of the Scottish Commission for Public Audit. The Commission consists of four members appointed by the Parliament and the Convener of the Public Audit Committee. Angus MacDonald was also appointed to serve on the Scottish Parliament’s Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee earlier this month.

The Commission’s main responsibilities are to:

  • Examine the proposed budget for Audit Scotland
  • Appoint the auditors of Audit Scotland
  • Initiate value for money examinations into Audit Scotland
  • Appoint members to the board of Audit Scotland

Speaking after Parliament approved his nomination to the Committee, Angus MacDonald said:

“I am honoured to have been chosen to serve on this committee in addition to serving on the Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee. It will be an interesting committee, with amongst other remits, ensuring that Audit Scotland performs satisfactorily and within budget. I’ve often been asked ‘who audits the auditors?’, never realising that that responsibility would fall on me, however I relish the challenge.”
