Wednesday, 03 August 2011 08:00
Falkirk East MSP Angus MacDonald is urging students not to panic on learning their exam results, which are due out tomorrow, Thursday, and to make use of the Skills Development Scotland Exam Results Helpline on 0800 100 8000.
Commenting, Angus MacDonald said;
“Firstly, I hope that students receive the results they have hoped for and I send congratulations to those who do, but for those who don’t attain the grades needed, it is important that they do not panic as help is at hand from the results helpline.
“Advisors will be ready to offer information, advice and support to young people receiving their qualifications, and their parents or carers.
“I would urge those who will be using the service to do so at the earliest opportunity so that all available options can be discussed and additional information is available at: www.skillsdevelopmentscotland.co.uk “
Note: The Exam Results Helpline will run from 8am until 8pm on 4 and 5 August, from 9am until 5pm until August 26 and from 9am until noon on August 27. Full Exam Results Helpline opening hours are listed in detail below.
What is the Exam Results Helpline (ERH)? Telephone: 0808 100 8000
The Exam Results Helpline provides free, expert and independent information and advice to students who receive higher or lower exam results than expected and want/need to explore alternative options for their futures.
Supporting existing education and careers advice channels, the helpline opens once a year across the A-level, GCSE, Scottish Standard and Higher exam results period, offering a lifeline to students who don’t get the grades they expect and want to continue into further/higher education or pursue different routes such as re-training, careers, finding employment, taking gap years or moving out of home. Advisers have access to the UCAS database and so can also provide information about specific grades, offers and Clearing places.
Each helpline adviser is fully trained with at least five years’ experience working in a careers based role and a relevant qualification. Information and advice offered covers the following areas:
- Employability skills
- Grades and course offers
- Re-sits and re-marks
- Clearing and Adjustment
- Qualifications and subject choices
- Sixth form, college, university and other HE/FE choices
- Gap years
- Moving away from home
- Vocational learning routes including diplomas, apprenticeships and NVQs
- Careers, employment and setting up in business
The helpline is delivered by Skills Development Scotland from 4th-17th August for students in Scotland receiving their Higher and Standard results and delivered by UCAS on behalf of the Department for Education from 18th – 27th August for students in the rest of the UK receiving their A level and GCSE exam results.
The Exam Results Helpline number is 0808 100 8000. Calls are free from landlines and select mobile networks.
