YOUGOV POLL PUTS SNP AT 45%

77% OF SCOTS THINK UK GOVERNMENT MANAGING ECONOMY BADLY

OPPOSITION TO CAMERON’S COALITION GREATEST IN SCOTLAND

Previously unpublished percentage figures from a Scotland only YouGov poll puts the SNP on 45% in the constituency vote for the Scottish Parliament – equalling its past record performance in a YouGov poll shortly before the May 2011 elections.

The polling percentages put the SNP 11 points ahead of Labour with the Tories trailing on 14% and the Liberal Democrats on 8%.

The bad news for the UK Coalition parties does not stop there with a separate UK YouGov poll for the Sunday Times finding that 77% of people in Scotland believe that the UK Government is managing the economy badly along with other figures which show that opposition to Cameron’s coalition is at its greatest in Scotland such as 67% saying the coalition is bad for them.

Commenting on the findings, SNP Westminster leader and referendum campaign director Angus Robertson MP said:

"This is another excellent poll which shows support for the SNP increasing just as support for independence is growing.

"People across Scotland know that it is the SNP that has a clear vision for Scotland and can see through the relentless scaremongering by the anti-independence parties over the last week.

"Indeed, after a week of scaremongering over independence on Scotland’s economic opportunities, it’s clear from another YouGov poll that more than three-quarters of people in Scotland believe that the Tory-led Coalition Government is managing the economy badly.

"The SNP, and increasingly the people of Scotland, want to see the Scottish Parliament gain full economic and financial powers so that we can build sustainable growth and boost jobs - the only alternative to Westminster cuts which are choking off recovery.

"We are confident of winning the case for independence and equality for Scotland in the referendum, and are encouraged by this positive poll. We will continue working hard to earn the trust and support of the people for the SNP's record, team and vision for Scotland."
