Falkirk East MSP, Angus MacDonald is welcoming £7.5 million of funding being dedicated towards the Boiler Scrappage scheme as further evidence that the Scottish Government is committed to fighting fuel poverty.
The action will see up to 18,000 householders each receiving up to £400 towards the cost of a new boiler.
Mr MacDonald said:
"It is unacceptable in 21st century energy-rich Scotland that we have people unable to pay their bills and living effectively on the breadline whilst energy companies reap ever-increasing profits year after year.
"This announcement by the Cabinet Secretary for infrastructure and capital investment Alex Neil will go some way to help remedy this.
"Already we have had in place the Energy Assistance Package and Boiler Scrappage Scheme, and these new measures will go further still and help move Scotland forward, in spite of the harsh funding cuts imposed by Westminster.
"The Boiler Scrappage Scheme has been a resounding success, helping to deliver new boilers to 12,000 households over the past year – this further commitment will bring warmer homes and lower heating bills to thousands of more homes in Scotland."
