Ministerial Visit to Bakkavor


Falkirk East MSP Angus MacDonald and Richard Lochhead MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment visited the Bakkavor Caledonian Produce factory in Bo’ness.

The factory opened officially in April 2012 and has been a major success, growing from strength to strength in terms of providing local employment for 1200 people and international expansion.

The factory produces freshly prepared foods for major high street chains and their products are developed based on solid market research.  They take pride in their in-depth understanding of their markets, customers and consumers.  They use this knowledge to develop products to fit consumer lifestyles and enjoy market-leading positions.

Bakkavor are market leaders in 12 of their 16 UK markets.

Angus MacDonald MSP commented:

“I was impressed when I visited this facility in April and am delighted to see it going from strength to strength.  I was keen to ensure that Cabinet Secretary Richard Lochhead was aware of this success story.  I suggested to him that he should visit the factory and I am pleased to see him visiting today to view for himself this state-of-the-art food production facility

 “The expansion of the factory has had a positive impact on the town of Bo’ness by providing more jobs for local people.

 “Bakkavor also have an ethos of caring for the local communities and sustaining the environment in which they work.  The company have reduced landfill by 20,000 tons in 2011, donating to local charities and working in partnership with local schools.

“I am pleased that in these times of recession Bakkavor is bucking the trend and continues to expand to other European countries.

“I congratulate the whole team, the management and the workforce who are so committed to ensuring the success of Bakkavor Caledonian Produce.
