ANGUS MACDONALD VISITS CALLENDAR ESTATE
Tuesday, 22 January 2013 14:39
Angus MacDonald MSP, member of the Rural Affairs, Climate Change and Environment committee visited Callendar Estate, parts of which are within his Falkirk East constituency.
After a short introduction, Mr MacDonald met with Alistair Reid from Glen Farm who together with his family will open a new farm shop and ice-cream parlour in Spring 2013. The parlour will specialise in homemade ice-cream made with milk from his own dairy herd.
Mr MacDonald was given a tour of the Estate by Guy Wedderburn, the Estate Manager, and learned of the many ways in which the Estate engages with the local community on a range of subjects including management of the community woodlands, access, multi-use paths and new business opportunities as well as seeing firsthand the biomass enterprise which has been established in recent years.
Mr MacDonald was also keen to learn of the John Muir Trail which will open in 2014 and cut through Callendar Estate.
Commenting on the visit, Mr MacDonald said:
“I was interested to learn about Callendar Estates involvement in renewable energy, agriculture and forestry. I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that it has an extensive network of cycle paths suitable for families and beginners. The views are so spectacular, it may even inspire me to put on a helmet and get out there on a bike this weekend!”
