SNP MSP Angus MacDonald has encouraged locals to nominate a batonbearer to help carry the Queens Baton when it reaches the Falkirk area on the 24th June next summer on its journey to the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Angus MacDonald commented:

“The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will be a huge event for Scotland and everyone has an opportunity to play their part when the baton relay makes its way through every part of Scotland on its way to the opening ceremony.

“People can nominate those they feel have made a significant contribution to their local community, improved the lives of others or triumphed against the odds to carry the baton as one of 4000 others on its final leg through Scotland.

“Folks in Falkirk District are rightly known for their volunteering and community spirit and I can imagine that there will be many people deserving of a place carrying the Queen’s Baton. I hope that this will help raise the profile of sport within Falkirk District, and that it will increase interest in the Commonwealth Games in Falkirk District as we approach July 2014.”

Nominations can be made at Applications close on Friday 22nd November.
