Falkirk East MSP Angus MacDonald has welcomed the launch today, Wednesday, of new flood maps showing which areas of Scotland are at risk of flooding. The maps will be an important tool in developing a better approach for managing flooding.
The new flood maps will be of particular interest to residents of the Upper Forth area, particularly Grangemouth.
Welcoming the announcement, SNP MSP Angus MacDonald, who serves on the Scottish Parliament’s Rural Affairs, Climate Change and Environment Committee said that “given the growing frequency of extreme weather events, such preparation was paramount”.
Angus continued: “The launch of these maps today is very welcome. A huge amount of work has gone into the creation of these maps and their launch comes as a result of successful partnership working between the Scottish Government, SEPA, Scottish Water, Falkirk Council and other local authorities.
"This tool will help us better understand the nature of flood risks at a local level and will allow us to target efforts to plan and invest in mitigating potential flooding impacts in vulnerable areas, including Grangemouth."
