Falkirk East MSP Angus MacDonald has tabled a motion in the Scottish Parliament welcoming The Helix being awarded the Best Environment Project category in the BBC 1 show National Lottery Stars 2014, which is due to be broadcast on Friday.

Motion S4M-10967: Angus MacDonald, Falkirk East, Scottish National Party, Date Lodged: 22/09/2014

The Helix Wins Best Environment Project at the National Lottery Stars 2014

That the Parliament congratulates the partners of the £43 million project, The Helix,

on it winning a public vote to be named Best Environment Project by the BBC programme, National Lottery Stars 2014, which is scheduled to be screened on BBC 1 on 26 September 2014; notes that The Helix was selected as one of 49 finalists from over 700 entries across the seven awards, which celebrate the best of the nation’s lottery-funded projects; understands that it has transformed 350 hectares of derelict land between Grangemouth and Falkirk into an exciting new parkland, which includes the two 30-metre-high horse head sculptures, the Kelpies; believes that the park is expected to attract an additional 350,000 visitors annually to the Falkirk area, which will help boost the local economy by around £1.5 million, and encourages visitors from near and far to experience the parkland and the Kelpies for themselves at their earliest opportunity.
