A group dedicated to developing the local rural area is seeking new board members.
Successful applicants for the board will join the Local Action Group (LAG) for the Kelvin Valley & Falkirk LEADER Programme, which has £2.8m to develop and fund rural activities and projects from 2014-2020.
In its 2007-2013 programme the LEADER Programme funded a number of local rural projects, including:
- £36k to rebuild the Dale Bridge over the River Carron after it was badly damaged
- £35.9k to the Topps Wood Education project, which got Denny High and its clusters schools involved with tree planting and habitat creation projects
- £1,150 to the Real Jobs Falkirk Muiravonside Project, which allowed the visitors café in Muiravonside to stay open during holidays by employing and training young people with special educational needs and helping them develop skills
Board applicants should have a background in economic and/or community development within rural parts of East Dunbartonshire, North Lanarkshire and Falkirk and have the skills and knowledge to develop the LEADER programme. The group seeks more representation from small businesses, active community representatives, social enterprises, farmers, land managers and local agencies.
