Lottery-winning Lower Braes environmental group are felicitated in Parliament
Falkirk East MSP, Angus MacDonald, is tabling a motion to the Scottish Parliament congratulating the environmental group, Urban Warriors Lower Braes, upon their securing almost £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund's "Awards for All Scotland" scheme to help develop their charitable woodland conservancy project.
Urban Warriors Lower Braes was set up to engage local people in maintaining the clean, green environment at Westquarter Glen and Callendar Woods. Volunteers are involved in activities such as litter picks, painting railings and bridges, paths maintenance, leaf sweeps and community planting.
The funding will be used to train their team of volunteers and to engage with the public over a series of twelve training events and activities in 2015.
Mr. MacDonald commented, "I am delighted to learn of the generous award granted to the Urban Warriors Lower Braes by the Big Lottery Fund. I am presently in the process of submitting a Motion through the Scottish Parliament officially congratulating the group upon receiving their good news and recognising the impressive work that they do for the environmental stewardship of the Lower Braes area in my constituency".
The text of the MSP for Falkirk East's parliamentary motion states:
"That the Parliament congratulates the Urban Warriors Lower Braes nature conservancy group on it receiving a Big Lottery Fund Awards for All Scotland grant of nearly £10,000; understands that it will use this highly beneficial award to train its team of volunteers and to engage with the public over a series of 12 training events and activities in 2015, and commends all involved in the group with their work toward what it considers the good cause of helping keep Scotland's forests and parkland clean and green for all to enjoy".
