MSP congratulates Scottish Government on being 'well on the way' to fulfilling affordable homes pledge
The MSP Angus MacDonald has welcomed new figures showing an increase in the number of new homes built in the district of Falkirk.
The new Scottish Government figures show that 617 new homes were completed across the private and social sector in 2014/15 – an increase of 217 on the previous year.
Across Scotland, the number of new homes completed is up by nine per cent to 16,281 in the year 2014/15. And the Scottish Government is also well on track to exceed its five-year target to deliver 30,000 affordable homes by March 2016.
Commenting, Mr. MacDonald said, “These are very welcome figures. They show that the commitment of the SNP in government towards securing the wide availability of affordable housing is paying dividends in my constituency of Falkirk East and in the greater Falkirk area."
The MSP for Falkirk East continued, “In spite of serious cuts to Scotland’s capital budget from Westminster, the Scottish Government has delivered more social housing and affordable homes in the last seven years than were delivered in the seven years prior to that."
"Moreover, we are now well on course to exceeding our five year target of delivering 30,000 new homes by 2016."
“Making sure everyone in Scotland has access to quality, inexpensive housing is at the heart of the SNP’s plans to make Scotland a fairer, more prosperous country."
Angus MacDonald concluded his statement by saying, "These encouraging new figures make clear that we are well on the road to fulfilling this objective for people in Falkirk East and right across Scotland."
