WAGE RISE FOR CARE WORKERS AND CONTINUED FREEZE ON COUNCIL TAX
Falkirk East MSP Angus MacDonald has tonight welcomed the Scottish Parliament’s backing for the package of funding for Falkirk Council in 2016-17.
The local finance deal will deliver a wage rise for social care workers, the protection of the pupil-teacher ratio, action on education attainment and the continuation of the council tax freeze.
Commenting, Angus MacDonald MSP said:
“The settlement agreed by Parliament this week will see the Council Tax frozen for the ninth consecutive year, saving the average band D household £1148 in Falkirk district.
“Additional funding will also be provided to deliver a Living Wage for social care workers and to support the biggest reform in our health service since 1948 by integrating health and social care.
“We will also ensure that every child can reach their full potential by providing more funding to improve educational attainment and to maintain the pupil-teacher ratio in our schools.
“This agreement will ensure that despite Tory cuts from Westminster, the public’s priorities will continue to be delivered at a national and local level – this is a settlement that delivers a pay rise for people on low wages, not a tax rise.”
