001 Hot Tips

Age Scotland, the national older peoples’ charity, is teaming up with Parliamentarians across Scotland to support the distribution of its annual ‘Hot Tips’ Calendar as part of its winter campaign.  Each month, the calendar looks at issues to help older people get prepared for winter, stay connected in their communities and keep healthy. This year, more than 20,000 copies have been produced.

Keith Robson, Age Scotland Deputy Chief Executive said: “This year’s ‘Hot Tips’ is packed with useful information that will be of interest to older people throughout the year. We explore how to make your home comfortable, safe and warm as well as how to keep yourself mentally and physically healthy, through activities such as adult learning and walking football. We also provide other practical information that could help you save money thanks to contributions from national partners including Citizens Advice Scotland and Transport Scotland. There’s also information about the Age Scotland Helpline 0800 12 44 222  which provides information, advice and telephone friendship, that overall support Scotland’s older people to live independently at home for as long as possible.”

The calendar, funded by the Scottish Government, includes features from partner organisations including the University of the Third Age, Luminate and Electrical Safety First, and outlines campaigns Age Scotland are involved in, including the Charity’s Lets Get Moving Campaign and Early Stage Dementia Projecct.

Angus MacDonald, SNP MSP for Falkirk East said:

“Age Scotland’s ‘Hot Tips’ calendar is a fantastic resource for older people and I would encourage my constituents to pop in and pick up their free copy.  With winters becoming increasingly severe in Scotland, it’s important that people prepare for what can happen, and Age Scotland’s ‘Hot Tips’ contain everything you need to know to stay safe, secure and connected”.

Copies of the calendar are available at Angus MacDonald MSP’s Constituency office, at 2 York Arcade, Grangemouth.

They can also be found in your local Age Scotland retail shop, where available, as well as from your local library or by calling Silver Line Scotland on 0800 4 70 80 90.
